The Intro Post from Your New Relatable-Mama Friend!

Welcome to my little corner on the internet!

I’m Tahmina, a working mom in pursuit of raising two good humans while searching for my calling. I initially thought of starting this blog as a creative outlet to share my baking recipes and kids party ideas along with our family travel stories, but ever since having my second child, most of my energy has been consumed with raising two extremely independent and strong-willed children. As such, this blog’s going to have a huge focus on parenting and raising good humans ... let’s face it, the world isn’t going to become a better place unless we raise responsible and considerate girls and boys for the next generation.

I’ve been thinking about the various aspects of my life that have shaped who and where I am today. All things considered, my life has been very blessed and uneventful (i.e. no wars, natural disasters or significant trauma). Seeing all that is going wrong in the world today, I know not everyone can say the same about their life, so I am deeply grateful for the life I’ve lived so far. I spent the first decade of my life in Bangladesh and the rest in Canada – the true north, strong and free!

I want to share some background about our little family and how I came up with the name of this blog but it’s a bit of a long story. So I thought what better way to describe it than to draw a process map! I mean, how else would a Chemical Engineer describe how something was formed?

A quick note: if you’ve never read a process map before, this is simply a block diagram flowchart. Just start at the top left corner and follow the arrows. If a box has two arrows, it means two events were taking place in parallel, i.e. concurrently. I hope that makes sense.

The story of Bilal (B) & Tahmina (T) and their daughters, Maya (M) and Emma (E)

So that’s how this blog started. No matter the topic of my blog posts, I promise to keep it real. Our family is far from perfect, so if you see a picture-perfect photo on here, I can guarantee there was some amount of added effort or stress to achieve that! I plan to always share some behind the scene stories, you know, to keep it real. Because what would be the point of another blog with highly edited photos of a highly put together mom and her perfect kids and her superbly clean house that magically cleans itself?? Do we really need more of those blogs to make us feel even less about ourselves? Can I get an amen here?

I am just a mom trying to do her best to raise her kids while managing a career, running the household, and building a creative outlet for herself, i.e. this blog. So the chaos, the mess, all the stress, and the drama are just part of the package and I’m totally pumped for the journey!

The ultimate purpose of this blog is to connect with and inspire others, especially parents who are just trying to do their best every day for themselves and their kids while navigating all the societal pressures of being a parent.  If I can help someone feel that they are not alone in their parenting struggles or provide a helpful parenting strategy or inspire someone to bake something delicious, then I'll accomplish exactly what I’ve intended to do with this blog.

Let’s make this a conversation. Let me know if you’ve found your calling. If so, what is it and if not, what is your current life mission? Mine is to be a more conscious parent.

I’ll be sharing plenty of parenting resources and advice as I continue my journey towards becoming a more conscious parent. In the meantime, I wanted to share some cute colouring pages that I recently created for my kids to thank you for checking out my blog.
